Inspired by exceptional architects

Our name pays tribute to Daniel Burnham and John Root, two American architects who, as leaders of their firm, understood how to marry creativity and practical problem solving to transform the way people experienced interior and exterior spaces.

The duo created beautiful, highly-functional buildings that were made to last and are some of this country's most notable works of commercial architecture: Chicago’s Rookery—a groundbreaking office building whose stunning atrium provides light and air to the entire structure; the Rand McNally Building—the world's first all-steel-framed skyscraper; and the Chicago World’s Fair—an enormously complicated project which was designed and built in under three years.

Burnham and Root believed in perpetuating their approach to creating great architecture and their ability to identify and mentor high-potential young architects led to the creation of a number of iconic American structures, including the Empire State building.

At Burnham Root, we honor the craft of our namesake, serving as company builders for the new economy.
